Take the blue line below where the Harbor joins forces with the Charles and you’ll find yourself in what was once an area of bustling minority life. I spent two years living in East Boston, affectionately coined Eastie, and my presence there was a direct example of the plight that is gentrification upon this wonderful section of city. Over my time departing at Maverick and Wood Island, construction became constant and families that lived and worked along its streets for generations were displaced as Boston students and workers alike fled to the neighborhood for it’s (more) affordable housing and ease of transportation. Using medium format 120mm film I spent mornings and evenings around classes and work documenting remaining original businesses, homes, the evidence of change in and the beauty of this neighborhood I lovingly and unfairly called home.
